In preparations for the administration of the 4th dose with updated vaccines against COVID-19, nursing services are progressing while the updated Pfizer vaccine has already arrived in Cyprus and Moderna is also expected before the end of the month, Deputy Director of Nursing Services Evagoras Tambouris told KYPE.

Following the recommendation of the National Vaccination Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health for the vaccination with the 4th dose of all persons over 30 years of age, as well as persons regardless of age who belong to special categories of the population with updated vaccines against COVID-19, it is expected that a relevant proposal will be submitted to the Council of Ministers on Wednesday for approval.

"When it is approved by the Council of Ministers we will proceed normally. We will see how we start the vaccinations. There is already a recommendation which is the most prevalent, to start by age from old ages downwards as well as vulnerable groups", said Mr. Tambouris.

He said that the nursing services since the Summer prepared scenarios for the administration of the 4th dose of vaccines to the population in terms of staffing and organization of the vaccination centers.

"We will see accordingly, starting with what demand there is and from which groups," he noted.

Asked about it, he said that so far with the 4th dose around 37,000 have been vaccinated, which is a small number. “The numbers are small because of the Summer. After the permits, the demand will start for all those who had postponed it until now," he said.

For the 4th tranche, he pointed out that it is expected that there will be a high demand. "The people who did the 3rd tranche and are around 37,000 will now also do the 4th tranche," he added.
