The AKEL Central Committee for the candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections in May is expected to give the green light at today's session.

The process, which is expected to be completed today and show the 56 candidates of the Left party, will be laid, as expected by the party, the foundations for the new era and entry into parliament by increasing percentages and claiming the first power in parliament.

In the process at AKEL, which, according to the statute, starts from the grassroots and ends at the leadership, special emphasis was placed on selecting candidates who meet specific eligibility criteria, such as new people, free from scandals and corruption, but also choosing personalities not only from party classes but also from the wider area of ​​the left and the center.

Among the new names that stand out is that of the International and Academic Dr. Pampos Chrysostomou, known for his public appearances and for his assessments regarding international issues and the Cyprus issue, of the responsible physician-coordinator of the unit Covid-19 of the Reference Hospital (General Hospital of Famagusta) and pan-Cypriot import coordinator Covid-19 but also general manager and doctor of the women's soccer team of Nea Salamina Famagusta Dr. Christou Kypri who according to information seems to have accepted a proposal from AKEL for his participation in the ballot in the province of Famagusta, in the New Forces.

Another name that is expected to be announced is that of the District Secretary of the party and deputy mayor of Famagusta Chrysanthou Zannetou, the son of Koutra-Koukouma Utensil, George Koukoumas who was also a candidate in the European elections in 2019, the president of Nea Salamina Thouki Thucydides, of the journalist Giannas Iakovou, the lawyer and coordinator of POGO Famagusta but also municipal councilor Lysis, Georgia TsalakouOf Costa Costa, and his Petrou Hira.
