Voting for the new mayor of Famagusta is taking place normally

The polls opened at seven in the morning for the elections that are being held throughout free Cyprus, for the election of a new Mayor of Famagusta after the death of Alexis Galanos.

As the Superintendent of Alternative Elections, Prefect of Famagusta Georgios Chrysafinis stated to KYPE, "the polls opened normally in all polling stations and the elections will be held from 7 in the morning until 6 in the afternoon with a one-hour break from 12 to one in the afternoon. ».

The registered voters are 31,589. The province of Limassol has the largest number of voters, amounting to around 12,500, in the province of Larnaca around 10 thousand, in Nicosia it is 4,500, in the free province of Famagusta 3,500 while in the province of Paphos there are 1,200 voters.

A total of 44 polling stations will operate, ie 4 in the free province of Famagusta, 7 in Nicosia, 13 in Larnaca, 19 in Limassol and 1 in Paphos. This year there will be ten less polling stations compared to those that operated in the 2016 municipal elections.

The result of the elections is expected to be announced around 20.00.

The announcement of the new mayor will take place tomorrow, Monday.

It is recalled that five candidacies were submitted for the mayoralty of occupied Famagusta. Specifically, Linos Papagiannis, supported by ELAM, and four independent candidates submitted in alphabetical order are Ioannou Simos, Karoullas Nikos, Lord Andreas and Stavri Georgios.
