An attempt to influence Turkey by the international community to change its stance in occupied Famagusta, the Municipality begins, with Mayor Simos Ioannou stating that in case there is no result then the only solution is for the Government to appeal to the Security Council.

He added that "all the City Halls of Cyprus, parties and other bodies participated in the five-minute work stoppage. "With this symbolic work stoppage, we hope that the whole world, especially abroad, will see that the whole of Cyprus is not only with Famagusta but with the law of the struggle of the Cypriot people."

He added that "we want foreigners to see that what Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is trying to impose in the besieged city of Famagusta is a clear violation of international law."

Answering a relevant question, the Mayor said that "the next step of the Municipality of Famagusta is, in coordination with the Government and the parties, to press the international factor to influence Turkey to change its position on the issue of occupied Famagusta. "If the President of Turkey does not listen to these pressures, then I believe that the only option the state has is to turn to the United Nations Security Council."

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Ioannou said that "today is a symbolic day during which the sirens sounded at 05.30 in the morning and I have bad memories since then I was a 19-year-old soldier and I was serving in Karpasia. "I hope no one goes through what any soldier goes through in the war."
