The Turkish daily Günes writes today that Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar claimed that there were opportunities for a solution to the Cyprus problem during the negotiations, but all of them were rejected by the Greek Cypriots.

According to the GTP, speaking at a ceremony in Famagusta for the occupation of the city by Turkish troops, Mr. Tatar claimed that in this context Varosi has been closed for 47 years, but will not remain closed for another 47 years.

He said the opening of Varos would boost tourism and the "country's" economy, adding that they were making the opening with the support of Turkey. He claimed that this would continue and that steps would be taken on the basis of justice and international law.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot "people" are defending their "sovereignty" and "state", Mr. Tatar said: "We also want an agreement, but we want an agreement from state to state on a solid basis, in safe hands."

He also claimed that if the "sovereign equality" of the Turkish Cypriot "people" is recognized, it will be possible to find an agreement based on "realities", adding that they will continue to shout this to the world.

Mr. Tatar concluded by saying that he would continue to work on the development of their new policy so that they could look to the future with hope.

Meanwhile, speaking at a ceremony commemorating the Turkish Cypriot victims of Tochni, Mr. Tatar claimed that the Greek Cypriots considered the 1960 agreements as a springboard for the unification of Cyprus with Greece and "carried out attacks against the Turkish Cypriots in order to destroy them." the soils ”.

He reiterated that with the invasion of the Turkish army on July 20, 1974, the Turkish Cypriots gained "their freedom, sovereignty and peace", but "people were killed later". He added that the United Nations remained an observer and that the international community, the UN or the European Union did not impose sanctions on "these killers".

Mr Tatar also said he would not accept a "forced solution or federation talks" in Cyprus. He claimed that he draws his power from the "people", that they never received a response to their goodwill from the Greek Cypriots and that with the aim of "zero troops, zero guarantees" the "annihilation" of the Turkish Cypriot "people" is sought. He reiterated that the Turkish Cypriots would never relinquish their guarantees of Turkey and their "sovereignty" and that they would continue to shout at the world for their "sovereignty".

The Turkish Cypriot leader concluded by reiterating that the acceptance of the demand of the Turkish Cypriot "people" for "sovereign equality" in order to start formal negotiations is out of the question.
