The THOI Avgorou celebrates its return to the First Division after 30 years. In a match that took place on Sunday (16/5) indoors at the Avgorou Technical School, THOI defeated Mavrommatis Agios Pavlos 28-24 and finished the championship in second place, behind the champion Agia Varvara Youth Union. The two teams will compete next year in the big halls where the teams become seven (with the prospect of increasing to eight in the 2022-23 season), as only the Youth Center of Agioi Trimithias is demoted.
THOI Avgorou followed an amazing, undefeated course in the second round of the championship, culminating in the three consecutive victories at the end, in a row against Apollon Agios Pavlos, Ε.Ν. Agia Varvara and Mavrommati, all at home. The victory over Apollon in the 12th Matchday was crucial, since until that moment the team of Agios Pavlos had a rising lead.
In the last and decisive match against Mavrommatis, Zachariadis scored 6 goals and Diamantopoulos 5. THOI Avgorou led 15-9 at halftime, a difference that could not be covered in the second half. Unbeaten victory for Apollon with 34-28 away from home against A.O. Anthoupolis. In a scoreless match, A.O. Aradippou beat Panellinios 23-20, away from home.
