Police actions in the tourist area of Ayia Napa between the dates 26/5/23-29/5/23. In the context of the implementation of an action plan by the Famagusta Police Department in the tourist areas of Protaras and Agia Napa, with the aim of more effectively preventing and fighting crime and strengthening the sense of security and protection of citizens, coordinated operations were carried out with the participation of members of the police stations of Paralimni, Agia Napa but also members of OPE, TAE, Famagusta Traffic, Y.KA.N Famagusta, Y.A&M Famagusta as well as members of M.M.A.D.
As part of Famagusta Traffic Police's checks to prevent road collisions and suppress traffic violations, a 34-year-old man from Bulgaria was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol with an alcohol reading of 157 mg instead of 9 mg.
Specifically, on 28/5/23 at 1945 hours in Ayia Napa, members of the Famagusta Traffic Police stopped for a check a moped with a 34-year-old driver from Bulgaria, a resident of Ayia Napa. During the check it was found that he smelled strongly of alcohol and he was given a preliminary alcohol test with a reading of 153mg instead of 9mg and a final test with a reading of 157mg instead of 9mg. The 34-year-old is expected to be brought before the District Court of Famagusta in Paralimni within the day.
Also, 148 traffic complaints were made while 49 breathalyzer controls were carried out, resulting in 5 complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The coordinated operations of the Famagusta Police Department will continue throughout the tourist season.
