In a climate of emotional charge, the outgoing Mayor and new Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Giannis Karousos, said goodbye to the staff of the Municipality of Ayia Napa on Monday, December 2, 2019.
Mr. Karousos informed the staff about what the President told him in the telephone communication between them, pointing out at the same time that what he has done for Ayia Napa he should do for Cyprus as well, something he said “not only honors me personally but and you the staff ".
The reason he was elected by the President of the Republic, he noted, is the good work done during his tenure as Mayor of Ayia Napa, and he assured that his appointment to the Ministry of Transport has nothing to do with the issue of reform.
On the contrary, he said, there will now be a person in the Council of Ministers, who will promote the positions not only of Ayia Napa, but of Sotira and Liopetri as was the agreement that has been reached. He said he is not going to change my positions and the issue announced by the Minister is his own proposals, not those of the Council of Ministers and the Government. Our proposal was mentioned as a second choice and now the battle begins and this Ayia Napa will remain a companion on this issue through the Council of Ministers.
He also referred to the important projects that have been done in Ayia Napa and those that have been launched, the good course of Tourism, the increase in revenue, the extension of the tourist season and the good image that the city has been broadcasting in recent years to both locals and and to foreign visitors.
"The bar is said to be high for the next ones who will take over and for those who will follow." Finally, he thanked all the staff for the good cooperation they have had together for the last seven years and assured that they will always be by the side of the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
