The message that "the revival of fascism and Nazism must never happen again" was repeatedly emphasized by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Natalie Jaarsma, in her greeting during the opening of the exhibition "The Life Story of Anne Frank - let me be myself ", organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and the City of Ayia Napa.
According to a press release, Ms. Jaarsma, after referring to the completion of 79 years since the anniversary of the night of the crystals on 9-10 / 11/1938, during which the Nazis had launched massive attacks against the Jews, which fact - as It was the beginning of the mass extermination of the Jews, she continued referring to the anniversary against Fascism and Anti-Semitism (9/11) as well as the anniversary of human rights which is celebrated on December 10.
The Dutch Ambassador also stressed that those events had marked the history of the human race, noting that phenomena that occur today are reminiscent of situations before World War II, referring specifically to the general targeting of Islam and the rise of anti-Semitism.
He also said that channeling hatred against certain groups leads to isolation, criticism and discrimination, which, as he said, lead to the perpetuation of the "right" to mass murder.
He noted that this is the greatest challenge facing humanity in our time, so he stressed again that this, that is, the revival of Nazism and Fascism, should never happen again.
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands stated that for her personally, this means that she will try never to judge people on the basis of any group they belong to because, as she characteristically said, each person is unique and deserves the right to be considered as separate. , having his own choice of religion, opinion or any other personal choice or characteristics that deserve equal treatment and equal treatment.
She expressed her gratitude to the house of Anne Frank who managed to keep this memory alive for so many years and to offer people the opportunity to reflect in their own way on what happened in the Frank family and on how a person can play its part in preventing discrimination in our day.
In his speech, Ayia Napa Mayor Giannis Karousos said that this educational exhibition reveals and highlights the history of Anne Frank and the Jewish Holocaust and urges visitors to reflect on general issues such as nationality, prejudice and discrimination.
Through the exhibition, she added, you give us the opportunity to learn more about both her own life and that of her family, the conditions and the horrific experiences they experienced during World War II. Anne Frank, he said, has been recognized around the world as a girl symbol of the children of the Holocaust victims.
This report, he noted, is a vehicle for teaching the methods and dangers that lead to discrimination and racism and their dangerous consequences, namely hatred, violence and cruelty.
Concluding, Mr. Karousos expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the Municipality of Ayia Napa was chosen as the venue of the exhibition after it had been previously presented in the two major cities of Nicosia and Limassol.
