The 6th Seferis International Symposium closed, which was marked by the opening of the "Giorgos Seferis" Cultural Center and the unveiling of the statue of the Nobel laureate poet.
Here is the announcement of the Municipality of Ayia Napa:
"With the commemorative photo of the delegates together with the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettos under the centuries-old sycamore tree, which was praised by the poet Giorgos Seferis in his poem "Ayiannapa II", the work was successfully completed on Sunday, November 5, 2023 6th Seferis Symposium, which has now become an institution for the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
In his short greeting, Mr. Zannettou referred to the importance of the creation of the "Giorgos Seferis" Cultural Center and, more broadly, to the investment in the cultural upgrading of the Municipality, to which the Seferis Symposiums, as he pointed out, contributed the most in the last seven years.
During the three days (03-05/11/2023) of the work of the 6th Symposium, which was co-organized by the Municipality of Ayia Napa in collaboration with the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, the Modern Greek Studies Petrondas of the University of Cyprus and the Postgraduate History Programs of the University Neapolis Paphos, a number of original works were presented by thirty personalities of letters and scholars who specialize in the work of Seferis.
These works brought to light new and varied aspects of Seferikos's work, which concern the sources and influences and elements of his poetry's reception, as well as its historical and political dimension.
In the framework of the Symposium, professor, critic and writer Nasos Vagenas was honored for his work in the study of Seferis. At the same time, the volume with the minutes of the 4th Seferis Conference was distributed, while the publication of the minutes of the 5th and 6th Congress is imminent.
The 6th Seferi International Symposium together with the inauguration of the "Georgos Seferi" Cultural Center and the unveiling of the bust of the Nobel Prize-winning Poet proved that Ayia Napa is now a Seferi Municipality.
