With the Green City of Cyprus award for the projects "Acquisition of Environmental Signals / Certification with Management systems" and "Overall environmental assessment of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, in terms of the goals of Sustainable Development" in the category Climate Change - Environmental Standards The Municipality of Ayia Napa was honored during the official award ceremony of the Pancyprian Environmental Awards 2019, which took place on Monday (February 24th) night at the Presidential Palace.
The Flags and the commemorative plaques were received by the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment and by the Commissioner of Environment Mrs. Klelia Vassiliou, the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Christos Zannettou.
With this award, the Municipality of Ayia Napa is automatically included in the Network of Green Cities and Communities of Cyprus of the Cyprus Center for Environmental Research and Education (KYKPEE).
The ceremony was also attended by the Municipal Councilor Mrs. Tasoula Tsokki Koumi on behalf of the Municipality and the responsible Officers of the Municipality related to the award.
In his statements, the Mayor Mr. Christos Zannettou expressed his heartfelt thanks to the organizers for the establishment of the environmental awards, which as they give the impetus and are the driving force for the Municipalities and Communities to implement environmentally friendly policies and practices. At the same time, he thanked the citizens for the environmental awareness they display as well as the staff of the Municipality for the efforts made so that the Municipality implements such innovative projects.
"This award" he continued, "is the culmination of many efforts of our Municipality as an organization for the implementation of both its Strategic Objectives regarding the environment, and a smaller scale of actions".
Mr. Zannettou assured that the Municipality of Ayia Napa will continue to set goals that contribute to sustainable and sustainable development and environmental protection.
It is noted that the environmental awards were established by the Cyprus Center for Environmental Research and Education (KYKPEE), with the support of the Office of the Environment Commissioner, the Union of Cyprus Municipalities and the Union of Cyprus Communities.
