The Municipality of Ayia Napa and the University of Nicosia signed a cooperation agreement for new innovative technologies.

A statement states that "with the aim of starring and becoming the first Pancyprian Municipality to apply new innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence, smart cities and the electronic blockchain database for the benefit of the Municipality, citizens and visitors, the Municipality of Agia "Napas signed on Wednesday, May 2, a cooperation agreement with the University of Nicosia, which is currently considered as the leading university institution in the world in the promotion of such technologies, mainly in Blockchain".

The agreement was signed at the Municipal Museum "Thalassa" by the Mayor of Ayia Napa Giannis Karousos and the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Nicosia Antonis Polemitis. The agreement ceremony was attended by members of the Municipal Council, University professors specializing in new technologies and heads of departments of the Municipality.

In his statements, Mr. Karousos stressed the great importance for the Municipality of Ayia Napa of the cooperation with the University of Nicosia, as mentioned. "Together with the University we will analyze and see where these technologies can be applied, so as to improve the productivity of our Municipality and the service of our citizens and visitors," he added.

For his part, Mr. Polemitis stated that "the University of Nicosia wants to support, with all the means at its disposal, the Municipality of Ayia Napa, to implement technologies that will support citizens, visitors and the environment."
