The Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation proposes the decision of the Municipalities of Ag. Napas, Sotiras and the community of Liopetri for reunification as put to a referendum.

The President of the Ecologists 'Movement - Citizens' Cooperation Mr. George Perdikis with the District Secretary of Famagusta Mr. Michalis Paraschos attended the pandemic meeting for the local government reform organized jointly by the Municipalities of Ayia Napa and Komotoros Sotiros Lotiros and Sotiros .

The two Mayors and the mayor presented their arguments to support their proposal for merging the two Municipalities. Their most important argument is that this proposal is gaining popular acceptance at the level of communities and their municipalities.

As an Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation we believe that the local government needs reform, the local authorities need support, we need bigger municipalities, but with respect for the special entities within the municipalities. We can not understand the logic of dissolution or abolition but we can discuss the logic of composition with the aim of transferring responsibilities from the central government to the units of local government, which are wider, stronger.

For our part, we have long submitted a bill, where all important decisions at the municipal level must be taken through referendums. We support direct democracy at the unit level of local government.

We wanted from the outset our reservation that we can not accept that even this positive measure of local government reform will be imposed by law and without the consent of the citizens themselves and local communities.

This is the meaning of democracy and even the good must go through popular affirmation otherwise we will be led into difficult and dark paths.

We agree with the two Mayors and the mayor that any solution found in the issue of local reform in the province of Famagusta will be approved and confirmed by popular vote through a referendum.
