LIOPETRI: 74-year-old succumbed to her injuries one month after the accident

Stella Costa Panagi, 74, from Liopetri, who was treated at the General Hospital of Nicosia, died last night, after being critically injured in a car accident that occurred last May in the province of Famagusta. The 74-year-old has been hospitalized at the General Hospital since May 22, when the accident happened. He passed away shortly after 8.00 on Sunday night.

The accident happened around 6.00 in the afternoon on May 22, on a road inside the village of Liopetri, where the 74-year-old was driving a car, with two other women aged 85 and 64 as passengers. At a point on the road, under conditions under investigation, a car driven by a 23-year-old man collided with the car driven by the 74-year-old, resulting in her critical injury.

The 85-year-old and the 64-year-old were seriously injured and were treated, the 85-year-old in a private clinic and the 64-year-old in the Larnaca General Hospital, from where they were discharged in the following days, while the 23-year-old, and was discharged the same day.

The 23-year-old had been submitted by members of the Police, to a driving test under the influence of alcohol with a final indication of 49μg% instead of up to 22μg%, while the indication to a preliminary driving test under the influence of drugs was also positive. He refused to undergo a final drug test.

The circumstances under which the traffic accident occurred are being investigated by the Famagusta Traffic Police.
