A 74-year-old is being treated in critical condition as a result of a road accident that occurred yesterday afternoon in Liopetri.
The traffic accident occurred around 6 in the afternoon, when under conditions under investigation, a car driven by a 23-year-old from Nicosia, on a road inside the village of Liopetri, collided with the car driven by a 74-year-old resident of the village.
Since the collision, the 74-year-old was trapped in her car and the intervention of the Fire Service was needed to free her.
Both the 74-year-old and two other women aged 85 and 64, who were riding in her car, were transported to Famagusta General Hospital for treatment.
The 23-year-old, who received first aid and was fired, was also taken to the hospital.
The 74-year-old was admitted to the General Hospital of Nicosia, where she is being treated in critical condition, while the other two women remained for treatment (one was transferred to a private clinic).
The 23-year-old driver underwent a breathalyzer test with a final indication of 49μg instead of 22μg, as well as a preliminary drug test with a positive result in cannabis, while he refused to undergo a final examination.
During his stay in the first aid of the Hospital, the 23-year-old was causing concern and disturbing the peace, as a result of which he was arrested for a self-inflicted crime.
The 23-year-old was then charged in writing for the above offenses and was released to be summoned.
The Xylofagou Police Station continues the examinations.
