The President of the Republic is currently on a tour of the free province of Famagusta. Nikos Anastasiadis, together with the Minister of Health, inaugurated the new extension wing, the Hemodialysis Unit and the Mammography Center of the Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni.
He will then perform the unveiling of a monument for the long-term contribution of actors, members and athletes of the GSE (Gymnastics Association "Evagoras") to the games of our homeland and the fallen and missing of the Turkish invasion, conscripts of the city and Province of Famagusta, at the Cultural Center of the Municipality Famagusta, in Deryneia. Finally, together with the Minister of Agriculture, he will lay the foundation stone of the project for the fishing shelter, in Liopetri.

"It is indeed a special pleasure for me when someone comes to inaugurate projects concerning the sensitive health sector and which demonstrate the high level of priorities set by the Government, in order to create the conditions for the provision of high, quality and efficient medical services in the wider society.
In this context and recognizing the increased needs of the wider area served by the Famagusta Hospital, we prioritized upgrading the operation and increasing its dynamics.
And allow me at this point, before the other reference, being in the Famagusta Hospital, the reference hospital, which emerged as one of the most important links in the chain set up to deal with and manage the pandemic, to once again express my grateful thanks to Management and all the medical and nursing staff for the high sense of responsibility they demonstrated, despite the difficult conditions in which they were called upon to perform their duties.
The expansion projects of the Hospital, as well as the operation of the Hemodialysis Unit and the Mammography Center that we are inaugurating today, with a total cost of more than three million euros, have well-equipped architectural facilities, providing all the necessary supplies to health professionals to carry out their functions.
At the same time, the new health services offered by the Hospital not only reduce patients' waiting times, but significantly enhance the health services provided to patients and beneficiaries of care in the free area of Famagusta and beyond, because they also cover the visitors of a of the most important tourist areas of our country.
After all, this, i.e. the creation of infrastructure, was also the goal of the broader policy we adopted, demonstrating strong political will and determination regarding the implementation and implementation of the General Health System, the largest social reform in the country:
To provide citizens with fair and equal access to quality health services.
Taking this opportunity, I would once again like to publicly express grateful thanks to the current and previous Ministers of Health, but also to the President of OKYPY, as well as to the current and former President of OAU.
But it would be remiss if I did not emphasize the contribution of political forces.
I want, by inaugurating projects - because I am following some criticisms - that were carried out during the days of the current administration, and it is the right of the President, when his Government carries out projects, to have the right to present them, to inaugurate or to establish them projects, which have been derailed.
I would therefore like to express my warm thanks for the contribution of the political forces. Their own political will and consent towards the adoption of the General Health System was important. For this I thank the political forces. This is also a feeling of high responsibility that prevails when there are difficulties or when there is a need for unity and consensus.
As I mentioned before, the projects we are launching today are part of our efforts to improve care services, upgrade existing infrastructure and create modern and sophisticated Reference Units and Clinics.
I repeat my warm thanks to the Directorate, the Director and the staff, to the regional Director for the work they have done and are doing, to thank everyone who cooperated so that we can quickly have the Units that we are inaugurating today.
I wish everyone the best, believing that this project that we started, this project that we started together will continue to develop because we do not ignore that there are of course problems.
