The UCMAS (Universal Concepts of Mental Arithmetic Systems) is a world-renowned pioneering educational method, the only program in Cyprus, for the development of the child's brain, with specific benefits.

UCMAS was started in 1993 in Malaysia by Dr. Dino Wong and is taught in more than 6000 training centers in 80 countries, such as USA, Canada, England, Spain, Germany, Russia, Malaysia, India, China, Australia, Japan, etc. In Cyprus the implementation of UCMAS started in 2017 and is taught in all provinces.

Researchers have found that brain function is stimulated by the interaction of the fingers and the mind. UCMAS is based on the use of the abacus tool, which the child uses with the fingers of both hands to move the beads. Through a process of learning different UCMAS levels, children first learn to do calculations with a real abacus in front of them, and then with a mental / imaginary abacus that they create in their mind. This mental use of the abacus is evident in children after completing the UCMAS 3 level.

In the province of Famagusta

In the province of Famagusta you can find it at UCMAS Marilena Chatziantoni - Therapoula Kalatha Tutoring - Mallouri at 1st of April 20 Avenue in Paralimni and at tel. 99911093.

Informative meeting in Dherynia

Learn all about UCMAS at information meeting on Sunday 5 May at 5 pm at the Municipal Library of the Municipality of Deryneia.

Benefits of UCMAS training

1. Memory enhancement: This is achieved by the effort that the child makes in imagining and remembering the movements of the beads that are made in a specific order in the child's memory and has as a final result the development of the photographic memory.

2. Enhancement of hearing ability: This is achieved through the child's effort to respond quickly to verbal instructions for solving arithmetic calculations.

3. Increase of concentration: This is achieved by the child making the effort to mentally use the abacus and the changes that take place at each stage of a numerical calculation, ignoring interference from the environment that distracts the child.

4. Increase the ability to do more than one thing at a time:  This is achieved by the effort that the child makes at the same time listening, imagining, thinking and responding to complex and parallel arithmetic calculations.

5. Improving mathematical perception and ability:  This is achieved with the technique of the mental / imaginary abacus that the child creates in his mind, where he can give results incredibly quickly and accurately. Your child will perform arithmetic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and square root. All this will be done in multi-digit numbers, without the use of a computer.

6. Increase self-confidence: By improving his comprehension and ability to perform arithmetic calculations, your child will not be afraid of numbers and math in general.

7. Improving academic performance in all school subjects: By having your child have high self-confidence in difficult subjects, such as math, he feels strong, superior and this is transferred to all the other lessons he attends.

At this point it should be clarified that UCMAS is a program for your child's brain development. UCMAS does not replace or conflict with school mathematics. UCMAS achieves specific benefits. If your child is already good at math, he or she can still benefit from UCMAS, as the benefits will be even more apparent as your child's brain further develops. Also, if you know that your child has a learning disability (eg attention deficit disorder or hyperactivity or dyslexia or memory problem or anxiety, etc.) UCMAS can help, but possibly to a lesser extent than other children. It is clarified that UCMAS is not a special education program.

UCMAS levels:

UCMAS can be started from A 'to S' Elementary School, where the mind is in the development phase, so that the child gains the maximum benefits. UCMAS can be completed up to High School.

The various UCMAS levels are as follows

UCMAS 1: Foundation (only for XNUMXst grade)

UCMAS 2: Basic, Elementary A (all other grades start at UCMAS level 2)

UCMAS 3: Elementary B, Intermediate A

UCMAS 4: Intermediate B, Higher A

UCMAS 5: Higher B, Advanced

UCMAS 6: Grand A, Grand B

All levels consist of two modules, except UCMAS 1. Each module lasts 5 months. At the end of each unit, the student takes an obligatory exam. Those who pass the exams are issued a diploma of this unit, which is sent from Malaysia. All levels are done once a week from 1.5 hours each time, except UCMAS 1 which is 1 hour each time.
