PROTARAS: They give cots in hotels for pre-rent

Protaras Beds, Protaras Beaches

The Municipality of Paralimni is implementing the measure of pre-renting beds and umbrellas in hotels adjacent to beaches, a decision that this year may create problems and cause complaints from local tourists, since as it is known, Cypriot bathers mainly choose due to the beaches of Protaras for their baths. According to some estimates, the decision of the Municipality of Paralimni to apply the method of pre-rental will greatly limit the ability of Cypriots to provide beds and umbrellas on the beaches, especially on weekends, where crowds are observed.

However, apart from the expected reactions of the Cypriot visitors, some hoteliers whose tourist accommodation is not so privileged and are not located along the coastline are already complaining, considering that discrimination is created against them, since they themselves can not offer to customers the possibility of pre-renting beds and umbrellas on the beaches.

The decision of the Municipality of Paralimni states that the percentage of beds and umbrellas that will be rented in the hotels that will submit a relevant request, will not exceed 10% of the total number of beds and umbrellas located along the coastline. The pre-rental price will be € 2,25 per bed and umbrella and the hotels, based on a condition set by the Municipality of Paralimni, can not rent them for a fee. The pre-rental period will be 200 days a year.

It is worth mentioning that the method of pre-renting beds and umbrellas by hoteliers was first applied a few years ago by the Municipality of Ayia Napa, without any particular problems, but a fact associated with the fact that the cosmopolitan beaches of Ayia Napa are frequented by foreign tourists. rather than Cypriots.

Based on the legislation, as defined by the Law on Beach Protection, the competent and direct body for the management of the beach and for the provision of services (beds and umbrellas), is the Local Authority (Municipality / Community) within which the beach, while the superior authority in the management of the beach has the District Administration.
