Tsiolas: "The Government looks forward to the implementation of policies to upgrade the tourism sector"

Recognizing the dynamics and prospects of Cypriot tourism, the Government seeks to substantially support the work of organized hoteliers, primarily through dialogue with stakeholders, the adoption of commonly accepted proposals and the implementation of specific policy decisions to upgrade the tourism sector. said the Secretary of the Council of Ministers Theodosis Tsiolas at the annual dance party of PASYXE, Famagusta.

Mr. Tsiolas added that the Government, recognizing the need for targeted and effective measures, proceeded to the creation of large projects and infrastructure, which modernize the quality of the tourism product, while offering incentives to attract new investments and recovery of development and business activity.

Regarding the Famagusta area in particular, the Secretary of the Council of Ministers said that the Government's plans regarding the works of the Ayia Napa marina, an estimated cost of 250 million euros and a capacity of six hundred boats, including residential and commercial development, are progressing.

He further said that the plans for the Paralimni marina are also progressing normally, the cost of which will reach 100 million euros with a capacity of about three hundred boats and that an equally important development project, which is expected to contribute to mitigating seasonality and attracting quality tourism. the creation of the first golf course in the area.

He also said that a series of measures, including the provision of urban incentives, have resulted in the increase of beds in existing hotel businesses in the free province of Famagusta as well as the creation of new hotel units, thus enhancing the substantial upgrade of the tourism product and while meeting new market trends and requirements.

The Secretary of the Council of Ministers also referred to the planning of a New National Strategy for Tourism, which will be put to public consultation in order to formulate a comprehensive action plan for the management of the tourism sector of Cyprus with a time horizon of 2030.

He also referred to the creation of a State Ministry of Tourism, which will report directly to the President, expressing the position that the creation of the State Ministry will contribute to better organization and the planning of immediate effective interventions to strengthen the tourism industry in our country.

Mr. Tsiolas noted that it is a common recognition that tourism is an essential support of the local economy and that "we all recognize that by investing in the implementation of specific goals we can create the right conditions that will ensure a dynamic perspective for the future."

He noted that the provision of a high level of services in combination with the unique natural beauties of the area, the history and the treasures of our cultural heritage, highlight its authentic and hospitable character and make it every year an attraction for thousands of locals and foreign visitors, highlighting the contribution and cooperation with the Cyprus Tourism Organization, which is making a remarkable effort, in the context of the implementation of a well-thought-out and well-structured action plan.
