The Famagusta District Court today issued a six-day detention order against a 25-year-old Briton to facilitate police investigations into an investigated case of assault and infliction of grievous bodily harm against a 26-year-old compatriot.

According to the Police, around eight last night, information was received that a British tourist, who had been seriously injured, was transported by ambulance to the Famagusta General Hospital.

According to the on-duty doctors of the Hospital, the 26-year-old injured man had multiple fractures to the head, bleeding and swelling of the brain.

Due to the seriousness of his health condition, the young man was intubated and transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Nicosia, where he is being treated.

Examinations carried out showed that the 26-year-old had been attacked by the 25-year-old, with whom he is in Cyprus in the last days for vacation.

According to the testimony, the 25-year-old allegedly punched the 26-year-old in the head, with the result that the latter fell to the ground, on a road in the province of Famagusta.

An arrest warrant was issued against the 25-year-old and he was arrested by the Police around 11 last night and today he was brought before the District Court of Famagusta, which issued a detention order against him for six days.
