About 11m euros are released each year from state coffers to cover MPs' salaries and party grants. At the same time that MPs and parties are enjoying these salaries and allowances and for fear of joining the support mechanism, unemployment in Cyprus is rampant, reaching almost 10% while there are families with zero earnings or starvation incomes…

Members of Parliament

Specifically, the salaries of the deputies amount, according to the Directorate of the Parliament, to € 3,637,33 per month the basic, plus € 1,025,16 allowance for secretarial services, plus € 1,945,00 performance allowance. Total € 6,608,24 gross earnings per month.

In addition, MPs receive the basic salary (3,637,33) as 13th, ie 2,444,064 per year.

Multiplying the monthly gross salary of an MP for 12 months by 56 MPs, we end up with the amount of € 4,440, 737 per year to cover parliamentary salaries, plus € 2,444,064 the 13th and the result is € 7,000 per year.

In the case of a term, the MP receives a lump sum of € 75.000 and a pension of € 1,800 per month. For two terms or more, he receives a lump sum of € 207 and a pension of € 000 per month.

All of the above, provided that the Member of Parliament has reached the age of 60.

Political parties

The amount of sponsorship that each party receives is proportional to its percentages. A fixed amount is given equally to all parties and the rest is distributed on the basis of the latest results of the parliamentary elections, a period during which the electoral power of each party is shown.

The total earnings of the parties from the Republic of Cyprus amounts to 4, 084, 451 per year. In addition, another 3 million euros are allocated to the parties, in each pre-election period to meet the needs.
