After the meeting, Mr. Malas stated that the establishment of a Medical School in Cyprus is a declared position of the Government and added that he is working for this purpose together with the Minister of Education, in order to form the final framework of the School.

Mr. Malas added that the parties involved during the meeting studied the issue of amending the legislation for the establishment of the School, as well as the ways of cooperation of academic doctors with the Ministry of Education.

He also expressed the hope that the University of Cyprus will employ in 2012 the first academic doctors, who will join the General Hospital of Nicosia, thus making it the first university hospital in the country.

"There are great convergences and in the coming months we will see the implementation of the Medical School in our country", concluded Mr. Malas.

Mr. Demosthenous appeared on his part optimistic regarding the submission of the amending legislation for the establishment and operation of the School, saying that he will proceed more immediately, based on the relevant decision of the Council of Ministers.

At the same time, he added that the parties involved have already reached the framework for determining the qualifications of the academic staff. "We hope that in 2012 we will have the first faculty members of the Medical School," said the Minister of Education.

Mr. Christofides said that in the midst of an economic crisis, the development course of the University of Cyprus continues at the desired pace. At the same time, he expressed the hope that in the coming weeks any problems related to the budgets of the institution will be solved, so that the University of Cyprus can proceed unhindered in the implementation of all its strategic goals for 2012 and 2013.

University of London Professor of Invasive Radiology Antis Adam, for his part, said that the establishment of the Medical School is well under way, adding that its contribution to the site will be great, while thanking the two Ministers, saying that "things are moving now much faster than before ".
