Arrest of a 40-year-old man in Famagusta for a poaching case

Members of the Police Poisoning Squad, in the context of their activity to combat the phenomenon of poaching, on Saturday carried out checks on houses, premises and vehicles in the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta.

During an investigation carried out by members of Ulamos in collaboration with members of the Environmental Team COMITTE AGAINST BIRDS SLAUGHTERING, in a fenced field and house of a 40-year-old in the province of Famagusta, after his written consent, two bird and a sound-producing device that produces mimetic voices of wild birds out of order. Also, in the garage of the 40-year-old's house, 99 swords were found and confiscated.

The 40-year-old was taken to the Paralimni Police Station, where he was charged in writing to be summoned before a court.

During the searches in the province of Larnaca, they carried out a search with a court order in the house and premises of 47-year-old and 45-year-old, where in their house were found and confiscated as evidence, 65 cleaned wild birds, as well as a container with chopped wild birds. A subsequent search of the vehicle used by the 45-year-old, after written consent, identified and confiscated 11 complete shotgun cartridges.

In addition, during a search that followed in other premises maintained by the 47-year-old in the province of Larnaca, four wild bird trapping nets were located and confiscated as evidence, in a fenced area and warehouse. A search of the 47-year-old's vehicle followed with his written consent, during which 21 complete shotgun cartridges and 3 hollow cartridges were found and confiscated.

From further examinations carried out, it was found that neither the 47-year-old nor the 45-year-old are holders of a hunting license. Both were taken to the Lefkara Police Station, where they were charged in writing to be summoned to court.
