Famagusta District: 50-year-old arrested for counterfeit banknote

It was reported yesterday to the Police by a 31-year-old owner of a betting agency in the province of Famagusta that, on 8/1/2017, a person aged about 50 and of a specific description visited his agency and filled in a football bet coupon, worth € 10. He paid with a € 200 banknote, which had a slit in the middle and took the amount of € 190 as change.

The 31-year-old owner of the agency went to the bank yesterday morning to deposit the receipts and during the check of the banknotes, it was found that the specific banknote was counterfeit and was stamped as such by the bank.

Later that day, the 31-year-old saw and identified the 50-year-old who was near a store in the province of Famagusta and notified the Police, whose members located him and took him to the offices of the Famagusta TAE for questioning. An arrest warrant was then issued against him, under which he was arrested and remanded in custody.
