The Municipality of Famagusta welcomes the report of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to the occupied city, as it is expressed in a reply letter of the head of the international organization to the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis.
According to a relevant announcement, based on these developments, the Municipality has immediately requested a meeting with the President, for a discussion and exchange of views before his planned trip to New York.
"Confirmation of the need to return Famagusta to its legal residents based on UN Security Council Resolutions 550 and 789, as expressed by Mr. Guterres, is one of the permanent positions of the Municipality of Famagusta," it said.
Finally, the Municipality welcomes "the expressed position of the UN in support of the Confidence Building Measures as agreed by both parties and the opposition to any actions that are outside this framework."
