The willingness of the Municipality of Ayia Napa to respond positively to the interest of the Municipality of Gelendzhik, Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation for twinning and mutual cooperation with Ayia Napa, was expressed by the Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos in a recent meeting with Mr. Victor and his entourage.

On behalf of the Municipality of Gelendzhik, the Deputy Mayor Mrs. Konstantinova Tatiana, the Mayor of the Archipo-Osipovka Town Mr. Kuzmin Dimyan, the Mayor of the Kapartinka Town Mr. Kialov Grigori and the President of the Hellenic Community of Gelendzhik Mr. Salahof Aflatonas and from the Municipality L. Maria Tofini Tsantila.

The meeting was made possible after a presentation by the Consul General of Cyprus in Krasnodar Mr. Nikos Vassilios, in the framework of his actions for the further development and deepening of bilateral relations between Cyprus and Russia and on the occasion of their informal visit to Cyprus.

Welcoming the Russian delegation, Mr. Karousos expressed his satisfaction that one of the largest tourist resorts in Russia, showed interest in twinning with Ayia Napa and this in itself mentioned is a great honor for the Municipality.

The two mayors then briefed each other on the history, culture and sights of each city and exchanged views of common interest mainly in matters of tourism and socio-economic interest, concluding that the two cities have much in common and a cooperation between them such as pointed out will be to the benefit of both Municipalities.

Mr. Karousos accepted his counterpart's proposal for an official visit to Gelendzhik in the coming months, the date of which will be settled shortly. An exchange of souvenirs followed between the two sides. Afterwards, the Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos together with the delegation visited various points along the green line where he informed them about our political problem, about our occupied land and about the current situation that prevails on the island today. They also visited Cape Greco, Marina and Nisi beach.

The meeting was preceded by a tour of the Monuments, sights and the most important landmarks of the city by the Cultural Officer of the Municipality, Mrs. Maria Tofini Tsantila.
