PD: There is progress in the talks but also difficulties

We are not going to accept a solution that violates the European acquis, fundamental freedoms and human rights, stressed the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis. Reiterating that there is progress in the talks but also difficulties, he stressed that the Greek Cypriot side will not leave the negotiating table because it disagrees with the positions put forward.

Noting that he does not ignore statements that find us strongly opposed, he added that today there is a new leader of the Turkish Cypriots. He expressed the hope that the determination and the initiatives they undertake together will create the conditions for achieving a solution that will free our country from occupation.

The President of the Republic also stressed that an effort will be made to mobilize all those who can primarily and above all influence Turkey.
