Andreas Vyras is the new president of the Union of Municipalities

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras is the new president of the Union of Municipalities. In the ongoing election assembly, Mr. Vyras received 46 votes, while his deputy candidate Alexis Galanos received 44 votes. One person voted white.

The Mayor of Engomi, Zacharias Kyriakou, had submitted a consensus proposal with the aim of avoiding elections, but the proposal was rejected. Elections are currently underway to nominate members of the executive secretariat.

For the next five years, the Mayor of Larnaca, who was supported by AKEL, will be in the presidency of the Union of Municipalities. Mr. Galanos, who was supported by DISY, failed to be re-elected.

The 39 mayors and representatives of the municipalities, a total of 92 people, have the right to vote.
