According to the data of the Cyprus Social Security Service, the number of citizens of EU member states and other foreign workers in Cyprus decreased significantly.

According to the data, in April 2013 the number of foreign workers in Cyprus amounted to 101.965 compared to 108.438 in April 2012. That is, in 12 months, their number decreased by 6.500 or 6%.

60% of workers or 61.145 are foreigners and 40% or 40.820 are EU nationals.

The number of Community workers decreased by 7,4% or 3,3 thousand, while the number of foreigners decreased by 5% or 3,2 thousand.

The largest number of foreigners are employed as domestic staff, which is a decrease compared to last year.

Employees in wholesale and retail trade and repairs decreased to 14.056 this year from 15.292 in April 2012, recording a decrease of 1,2 thousand or 8,1%.

There is a decrease of 1,9 thousand in the number of foreign employees in the construction sector.

It is noted that the upward trend of previous years in the recruitment of foreigners, was reversed in 2013, as pressures in the labor market limit employment opportunities, while household income losses change the data in the recruitment of domestic workers.
