Speaking to the Morning Schedule, Defense Minister Christoforos Fokaidis stressed that none of the parties disagreed with the reduction of military service, adding that the objections mainly concern procedural issues, such as why Parliament was not previously informed.
Mr. Fokaidis said that the issue of reducing military service had become a joke and no one believed that it would be implemented.
The Parliament, he added, should be informed after the decision by the Council of Ministers.
If there was a surprise, he noted, it was from the Ministry of Finance, which fully adopted the recommendations of the GEEF for armaments programs.
Mr. Fokaidis, expressed the belief that the Parliament will approve the proposal for the evolution and modernization of the National Guard and consequently the reduction of the military service.
