The Cyprus Hunting Federation gave its own response to the activist organization CABS on Tuesday.
As emphasized in an announcement, the right to checks, seizures and complaints, "only the Cyprus Police and the Thera Service have the right to proceed. It is added that hunters can no longer, under any circumstances, accept "anonymous people from other countries entering our country as tourists hiding behind the activist's label to be so discouraged and from this year for the first time to hear protests for harassment of even legal hunters during their hunting trips ”.
On the occasion of the announcement of the CABS Organization that saw the light of publicity, the Cyprus Federation of Hunting and Wildlife Conservation K.O.K. & DAZ. wishes to inform both the competent Ministers and officials dealing with wildlife as well as the ordinary citizens and the thousands of hunters of our country the following :.
1. From October 1, 1960, Cyprus ceased to be enslaved. From now on, the Republic of Cyprus has its own constitution and its own laws and every citizen of this country and visitor has an obligation to observe and respect them. Unfortunately, the gentlemen behind this organization do not know their existence, nor the identity of the people who surround it, while they appear only with sporadic announcements of ACTIVISTS (CABS organization) trying to impose their own programs with unique the threat that they will allegedly denounce our country in the European Union, for the capital illegal trapping that occurs elsewhere, in almost all southern countries of the European Union without taking on the dimensions and publicity it receives in our country because of these organizations but also of our own tolerance.
2. The Cyprus Federation of Hunting and Wildlife Conservation K.O.K. & DAZ. has always unreservedly stated that it is against any illegal trapping and especially any illegal activity that has to do with the wildlife of our place. It is with our own suggestions a few years ago to the competent Ministers of Justice & Interior that we insisted on our firm position for the creation of an Olamo for Combating Poaching within the police force.
The need to create ulamos stemmed from the increased serious poaching aimed at the hare and the wild.
Unfortunately, lately the unbearable pressure from ACTIVISTS organizations such as CABS seems to have changed the role of Ulamos with the main goal of escorting ACTIVISTS who often carry out acts against the laws of the Republic of Cyprus such as:
1. To enter illegally fenced or non-private properties illegally.
2. To seize illegal means of arrest.
3. Surveillance of persons on private property either with Drones which is illegal, but also with a host of other methods.
These gentlemen may not be aware that, based on the Laws of the Republic of Cyprus, ONLY the Cyprus Police and the Thera Service have the right to conduct such checks, seizures and complaints. Unfortunately the glass has overflowed long ago, the despair and indignation of the people has reached its limits. Fifty-seven (57) years after the struggles of our ancestors, the Cypriot citizen has learned to live free and to accept with all respect the observance of the law and the control by the LEGAL bodies of order.
However, he can no longer accept anonymous people from other countries entering our country as tourists hiding behind the ACTIVIST sign to be so discouraged and from this year for the first time to hear protests for harassment of even legal hunters against during their hunting expeditions.
We wonder if anyone has ever checked whether these ACTIVISTS have a clear criminal record in their country and what their past is and who they are. We still wonder who is the sponsor of all these people who for several months stay in hotels in our country and advertise that they work voluntarily.
It would be ridiculous for someone to believe that they have no financial benefits and if they do, let them know that they and their employers, like all working citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, have an obligation to the Social Insurance Fund.
For the second part of the announcement of the famous group of CABS ACTIVISTS that has to do with the action of the Thera Service with the illegal trapping, they do well to be informed before making such announcements which do not correspond to reality.
The Hunting Service today performs a complex and multifaceted project with the following main activities:
1. The protection and development of our endemic Agrinos.
2. Fighting the difficult task of poaching that has to do with Lagos.
3. Pancyprian scale policing of our habitats.
4. Habitat development.
5. Purification of natural resources.
6. Installation of artificial watering cans in collaboration with the Hunting Associations members of K.O.K. & D.A.Z ..
7. Hare Farms
8. Partridges Farms.
9, Development and creation of hare farms with the Hunting Associations, members of K.O.K. & DAZ.
10. Practical participation of all staff in the prevention and extinguishing of fires.
11. Cultivation of environmental awareness in special programs with primary school students and not only,
12. Participation and creation of conferences that help to improve wildlife.
13. High level bird counts in both habitats and wetlands.
14. And certainly strong action in the fight against illegal bird trapping in our country.
We would also like to inform you that the cases reported every year by the Thera Service, since the day of its establishment, for illegal trapping are hundreds and every year the number of cases for illegal trapping in Cyprus is many times more than the cases related to other types. poaching.
Also know that about 80% of the funding of the Hunting Service comes from the hunters of this place themselves. It has been requested in the past and specifically in a conference, for illegal trapping, as in the large funds they have as Organizations Against
Illegal Trapping as they also contribute financially to the Thera Fund in order to increase the living and inanimate material for even better results. Unfortunately, these organizations did not even mention or discuss such an issue.
We call on those in charge to impose order and draw good attention to the specific organizations because their action has in many cases gone beyond the provisions of the Law.
