Decree for training areas for hounds

CEB1 123 Hunting
CEB1 1035 Hunting

With the good morning of the new year, a series of fronts open for the hunting world of Cyprus. Within days, maybe even tomorrow, the final decree for the dog training areas for the new year is expected to be issued.

His publication, despite the fact that for most there was an agreement with the provincial hunters' committees, is expected to provoke reactions from a portion of hunters.

The reason is that some have created unrealistic expectations for hunters-dog owners for a decree that would allow dog training in a large number of areas, prohibited and allowed, for a long time. In fact, the original proposal submitted by the hunting federation provided for the training of dogs during the period January-February in all restricted areas.

This, as expected, was rejected by the Thera Service, which asked the provincial committees to designate areas, forbidden and allowed, to be examined, with the promise to expand the number of areas per province. As it finally happened.

According to our information, however, the areas that will eventually be given will not be particularly high compared to previous years. This, however, was done with the consent of the delegations of hunters of all provinces, except Larnaca, with which there seems to be a difference of opinion. In any case, the decree is ready to be published.

Meanwhile, the discussion of the new bill on hunting continued yesterday in the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment.

As can be seen from the outcome of the discussion so far, the issue of extrajudicial penalties and air license fees is being adopted. On the other hand, the idea of issuing a hunting license seems to be abandoned, as well as the licensing of feeds. The issue of issuing a license for the training of dogs throughout the year in the areas defined by the decree remains unclear.

The information states that it was not included in the revised bill, however the Thera Service returned, justifying its position. Finally, it is noted that the new bill also provides for the issuance of a license to accompany dogs in hunting.
