Proposals for reforms in the Pancyprian Examinations

The issue of the Pancyprian Examinations was discussed on Wednesday in a meeting of the Education Council of Primary, Secondary, Higher and Higher Education at the Ministry of Education and Culture, as it emerged after the submission to Minister Costas Kadis by the competent Scientific Committee of the Proposals for Pancyprians.

According to an official announcement, the proposal, among other things, provides for the separation of the final exams of public Secondary Schools (Lyceum cycle) from the entrance exams to Higher Education, and the introduction of four-month exams for the purposes of formative assessment.

Also, the September exams for the students who are lagging behind are postponed to June, while for their better preparation the students will be offered two weeks of supplementary teaching. The proposal for the Pancyprian Examinations is part of the general policy of the Ministry for reforms and modernization of our educational system.

Mr. Kadis invited the members of the Council to submit in writing any additional proposals by October 30, while at the same time the dialogue with the involved educational organizations (OELMEK, OLTEK) will continue, in order to formulate the final proposal and to promote it.
