It will be placed in a place chosen by the artist himself, while we also learned approximately when he will come to the island.

The statue is a donation to Ayia Napa from the International Academy of Culture and Arts of Russia.

It is a gilded three-meter-high sculpture by renowned Russian artist Petr Stronski.

The sculpture depicts one of Stronski's famous Guardian Angels holding the Virgin of Ayia Napa in his hands.

In a communication we had with the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, in order to learn more information about the sculpture, we were informed that the space that will eventually be placed was chosen by the artist himself.

"We guided the artist throughout the Municipality. He saw the squares, the streets and he chose to place his work in the port. It will be located on the east side of the port, "he told us characteristically.

As for when it will be installed, Mr. Karousos told us that he expects the implementation of the project to take place next December and then the sculpture will be sent to the island.

Its placement in the port, according to the Mayor, is expected to take place next May or April.

According to the Mayor, the donation was made due to the recognition of the work produced in Ayia Napa in relation to culture, but also because of the close relations that Russia maintains with Cyprus.

It is noted, in fact, that the International Academy of Culture and Arts of Russia maintains a branch in Cyprus.

The statue, which will be made of fiberglass metal and will be gilded, will be three meters high and will weigh 600 kilos.

The cost of its construction will be entirely financed by Russian businessmen.

The Municipality of Ayia Napa will bear only the costs of transporting the statue from Moscow to Cyprus and installing it.

In 2012 another Angel, holding a dove, was placed on a tall pillar on Lake Balaton in Hungary.

Similar statues have been erected in Slovakia, but also in Ierissos, Greece.
