In fact, one in two participants said they had experienced a case of corruption.

As far as the banking sector is concerned, the percentage of citizens who believe that there is corruption is 71%.

At the same time, attending the "SpeakUp" conference of Transparency International Cyprus, the Minister. Justice announced the Government's Anti-Corruption Strategy which focuses mainly on: prevention, which aims to reduce opportunities for corruption, education through training programs and the effective enforcement of anti-corruption measures such as strengthening the legislative, judicial and control framework.

Ionas Nikolaou also announced that the Ministry has prepared a bill that will provide for the protection of the complainant, ie any person who is not involved in acts of corruption and provides the Attorney General with information that he reasonably believes will reveal a corruption offense.

The bill, according to Ionas Nikolaou, will be discussed directly with the Attorney General and will be presented to the Council of Ministers in the coming weeks.

It is noted that to date, Cyprus does not have specific legislation to protect individuals who report malfunctions in either the public or private sector.
