The Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry condemns recent statements by the Turkish Cypriot "mayor", Ismail Aster, for the opening of part of the beach within the fenced area of Famagusta, at the height of Deryneia, for use by Turkish Cypriots and Turkish citizens.

In a statement issued today, the EVEA said that these unacceptable and provocative actions run counter to UN Security Council resolutions, as well as European Parliament resolutions calling for the return of Famagusta to its rightful residents.

Famagusta EBE calls on the Government to take all necessary actions and representations to the United Nations, the EU and elsewhere to prevent this provocative behavior, which aims to consolidate the Turkish occupation and undermines the efforts of both parties to solution of the Cyprus problem.
