The problems faced by both the waste collection teams of the Municipality of Ayia Napa and the citizens, were recorded by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, who accompanied and inspected the waste collection teams of the Municipality this morning.

A written announcement states that Mr. Karousos, without warning, accompanied and conducted an inspection that lasted all night in the waste collection teams of the Municipality and saw the problems that exist in both citizens and employees and discussed with them the ways to solve them.

The Mayor, as mentioned, inspected three crews and accompanied the employees in a large part of their daily itineraries, a tactic that he has applied in the past.

"The aim of the inspections that we have done several times so far is to record problems in order to improve the cleaning service, while we also accept suggestions, several of which we implement", said the Mayor, noting that the waste collection department of the Municipality has significantly improved in recent years, especially after the renewal of the fleet of garbage trucks and the implementation of a telemetry system (GPS).

The improvement in this area, he said, will continue with the implementation of the recycling program with a budget of about 3 million euros, with the main goal of recycling 6 thousand tons per year.

According to Mr. Karousos, these days compressors are being installed in the large hotel units for the organic waste, which after their separation will be transferred to special composting units or bio-gas production.
