After many complaints from tourists in the past weeks, the problem of annoyance caused by young tourists riding four-wheeled motorcycles "pigs" and "buck" type vehicles is in recession in Ayia Napa and Protaras. This was stated by the spokesman of the Famagusta Police Department, George Economou.

At the same time, he said that in addition to the complaints, the departure of young British tourists from the area, which was the first cause of the specific nuisance, also played a role in reducing the problem. According to Mr. Oikonomou, the illegalities of the young tourists mainly concerned dangerous driving and violation of basic rules of the driving code, as well as non-use of helmets.

"Surveillance of the phenomenon continues, but certainly the situation is much better, while since the beginning of the tourist season hundreds of complaints have been made," said a spokesman for the Famagusta Police Department.

Describing this year's image of the tourist year as mild and without particular problems so far, Mr. Economou said that the complaints of people who tried to sell the well-known paper bags with the gas of happiness or laughter were counted on the fingers of one hand until now. It is noted that, as in previous years, this summer the Famagusta Police Directorate is supported daily by members of the Traffic Headquarters, but also of the MMAD, regarding the surveillance of its tourist areas.

The purpose of the Police in general and consequently of the Famagusta Police Directorate is to facilitate the public and not the complaints of drivers, stressed Mr. Economou. However, he stressed at the same time, regarding the areas of Protaras and Ayia Napa, illegal parking will be reported. Illegal parking, he continued, is considered to impede the smooth passage of other drivers or pose a safety hazard to other vehicles.

In both areas, Mr. Oikonomou stressed, there are parking spaces, as long as drivers are willing to park 200-300 meters from the beach and head to it on foot, ensuring their cars and the smooth running of traffic .

According to the mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannos Karousos, the indications of the last few days indicate a marginal fullness of beds in hotels and general tourist accommodation in the resort that reaches 100%, a situation that is expected to be maintained until the end of the month.

However, at the same time, the owners of restaurants and other leisure establishments claim that the traffic on their premises is reduced and does not correspond to the occupancy rates of the beds. This is because tourists, especially those from Russia, do not spend significant money.
