The President of the Democratic Alarm and Candidate for President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, visited the Sotira Municipal Hall today at a Panagrotiki Gathering at 11 in the morning. At the gathering, organized by the Panagrotikos Syndesmos, the issues of potato growers were discussed.

In statements after the meeting, Mr. Anastasiadis said that he feels and shares "the indignation and the difficulties in which the rural world has found itself".

"The Government does not pay attention to the problems faced by the rural world", stressed the President of DISY Nikos Anastasiadis, emphasizing that to address the issue it is necessary to take immediate measures and a comprehensive program plan.

"What I find is that, unfortunately, the Government is not favorable and the whole government policy shows signs of indifference, which it should maintain in a sensitive production sector, no matter how small the percentage of production in the gross domestic product is today. "Nevertheless, there are thousands of people trying and struggling to survive," he said.

He added that given the economic crisis and unemployment, lack of competitiveness in prices, rising production costs, whether due to electricity or water, or anything else that burdens the rural world, make it completely difficult to marketing of agricultural products.

He also noted that "the lack of state assistance in the disasters they have suffered has exacerbated the bankruptcy of farmers."

Mr. Anastasiadis said that "in order to address the problem, immediate measures will be taken but also a comprehensive program plan, at least in terms of agriculture, from our side".
