Their strong protest was expressed yesterday during a gathering organized in Liopetri by members of the Hunting Association of Liopetri.

More than 500 hunters from the province of Famagusta and the province of Larnaca gathered to express their dissatisfaction with the new legislation on the Protection and Management of Wild Birds and Prey that was passed by Parliament last June.

The reason for the protest is the recent exhaustive fines imposed on poachers by the Hunting Service, which in less than a month have exceeded € 35 thousand, as well as the action of foreign activists of the Committee Against Bird Slaughtering (CABS).

In his speech, the President of the Hunting Association of Liopetri, Costas Michael clarified that hunters are not in favor of poaching, but the main reason for their reaction is, as he states, the fact that "the hunter has been financially exterminated by the exhaustive fines allowed by to be imposed ".

He also called on all hunters to hand over their ballot papers as a protest action to Parliament for amending the legislation.

He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the legislation has not been drafted with the aim of enriching the habitats with prey and protecting the hunter, but the imposition of excessive, as he mentioned, fines.
