Without the presence of spectators, the touching ceremony of the Olympic Flame will take place on Thursday, March 12, in Ancient Olympia, according to an announcement by the Greek Olympic Committee, in order to protect public health from the risk of the coronavirus spreading.

According to the announcement of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, which in its relevant decision took into account the directions announced by the Greek government for the protection of public health, the touching ceremony of the Olympic Flame will take place without the presence of spectators and "will be attended only by 100 invited with accreditations from the International Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee "Tokyo 2020" ".

"The final rehearsal of the Touch Ceremony, on March 11, will be closed to the public and journalists. The journalistic accreditations at the Touch Ceremony are limited to the absolutely necessary ones ", the announcement adds. At the same time, the mayors of the cities through which the Olympic Flame will pass or spend the night are urged to follow faithfully the instructions of the Ministry of Health and the National Organization of Public Health.

"The Hellenic Olympic Committee will continue to examine all the data and depending on the developments will proceed with decisions, always guided by the protection of public health", the announcement concludes.
