Last year, on the day of the Epiphany, 24-year-old Giannis dived into the cold waters of Amarynthos to catch the Holy Cross.
The young man and his father started from Drosia, Evia, for Amarynthos in order to throw the Holy Cross on their own. In this way they wanted to fulfill the vow for his brother, who suffers from leukemia. A few days earlier, at Christmas, the 24-year-old had become a bone marrow donor in order to help his older brother.
He was in a coma for days
But luck was not on his side. He dived with his father and two other friends, but was seriously injured in the neck. He was in a coma for days. Eventually the doctors diagnosed total quadriplegia. Since then he remains confined to a wheelchair. However, he has not lost his faith and remains optimistic about life, although he still faces several difficulties.
A year later, his brother Giannis also dived to catch Stavros, in order to fulfill his vow for his brother.
Speaking to STAR, they referred to the love and unity they have as brothers. "We are for each other", they said characteristically to the presenter of the show Zina Koutselini.
