The issue of sewerage fees is causing new unrest.

According to "Phileleftheros", the President of the Republic, following the opinion of the Attorney General, refused to sign the amending law on sewerage fees, in order to enter into force, indicating to Parliament that it contains several gaps and ambiguities.

The decision of the President changes the data, as with the disputed law the deputies obliged the Sewerage Councils of Nicosia and Paphos to reduce their fees for the year 2017 by 30% and 13% respectively.

According to the same publication, a reservation was included in the law for those property owners who paid the sewerage fees, before its amendment, in order to offset the additional amount paid, with the fee to be paid for the year 2018.

The Councils were on standby, awaiting the publication of the law in the Journal of Democracy, in order to send the new reduced tariffs.

In his letter to the Speaker of Parliament, dated 16/11/2017, President Anastasiadis suggests to the House to accept the referral of the law, the provisions of which, as he claims, create inequalities between the citizens, deduct income from the funds of the Councils, create serious administrative costs and unnecessary inconvenience and inconvenience to the public.

The return of the President of the Republic will be considered extraordinarily at the next session of the Parliamentary Committee on Interior, in the presence of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the event that the Plenary Session of the Parliament votes against the referral, then the President of the Republic will be obliged to appeal to the Supreme Court, which will have the last word.
