More than 900 civilians, including 188 children, have been killed in eastern Gouta since February 18, when the Syrian regime launched a major operation against a rebel stronghold in the area, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Earlier, seven civilians were killed in an airstrike in the Zamalka community. In all, 905 people have been killed in East Guta in the past three weeks, according to the UK-based group.

Meanwhile, Syrian state media reported that a second corridor had been opened to remove civilians from the besieged enclave. The Jisrin-Mieha road, which can be used by civilians "besieged by terrorist organizations in Eastern Gouta", leads south of the enclave.

The Syrian army is approaching its main goal, to cut the pocket in two to isolate the city of Duma.
