Before she could celebrate her third birthday, a three-year-old girl who was seriously injured during a knife attack in the state of Idaho, in the northwestern part of the USA, succumbed on Monday.
Seven other victims are still being treated.
The unfortunate little girl was stabbed with a knife at her birthday party in Boise. As expected, the news shocked the whole country.
The alleged perpetrator of the attack has been arrested and remanded in custody.
The little girl, who was airlifted to neighboring Utah for emergency medical care, eventually succumbed to her injuries, Boise City police said in a brief statement Monday.
The man accused of indiscriminately stabbing nine people - three adults and six children - was expected to appear in court on Monday for formal charges.
Timmy Keener, a 30-year-old African-American from Los Angeles, is being prosecuted for manslaughter and causing serious bodily harm, with aggravating circumstances, as most of his victims were children.
The attack took place in an apartment building inhabited mainly by refugee families, mostly from Syria, Iraq and Ethiopia.
Keener carried out the attack a day after the woman who hosted him chased him away, Boyce police chief Bill Bones explained on Sunday.
