Ε.Ε .: The digital COVID certificate is extended for one year

EU Member States and the European Parliament reached a political agreement on Monday to extend the regulation on the European digital certification for COVID.

The regulation will be extended by one year, until 30 June 2023. The extension of the regulation will ensure that EU travelers. as well as those from third countries connected to the system will be able to continue to use the European COVID certificate for travel within the EU. in Member States where these travel certificates are required - although many countries have already stopped applying. If the epidemiological situation allows, the regulation can be repealed earlier.

In addition to the extension, the following were also agreed:

  • the European Commission is required to submit a detailed report by 31 December 2022. The report could be accompanied by legislative proposals to allow a reassessment of the need to maintain or revoke the certificate, depending on developments;
  • Vaccination certificates must reflect all doses administered, regardless of the Member State where the vaccination was given;
  • it will be possible to issue a certificate of recovery after an antigen test;
  • the range of approved antigen tests used to meet the requirements for certificates will be extended;
  • Vaccination certificates may be issued to those participating in clinical trials.
