The French paid a heavy blood tax for winning the World Cup. Two people lost their lives during the festivities, while three children are fighting for their lives. In Paris, Marseille, Strasbourg, Rouen, Lyon and Ajaccio, on the other hand, there were serious incidents, which lasted all night and the confrontation with the riots required the appearance of 110.000 police officers on the streets of big cities.
A 50-year-old man lost his life when he fell into a canal in Annecy and was fatally injured because the depth of the water was small, as well as a 35-year-old man in San Felix, who lost control of his car, which fell on a plane tree.
At the Frouar, three children, aged 3 to 6, were abducted by a motorcycle and seriously injured. The condition of a young man who received a blow to the head with a helmet is also considered critical.
Most of the episodes took place in Paris. Around 10:00 local time (11:00 Greek time) they broke into the Drugstore Publicis of the Champs Elysees and snatched bottles of champagne and wine. Other youths robbed two small supermarkets in the area of the Champs Elysees. The police broke in both cases the groups of invaders, and placed guards at the entrances of stores.
Around 12:30 after midnight, special forces and water pumps were mobilized to disperse the rioters, who continued to throw objects, mainly bottles in every direction.
In Lyon, panic erupted when young people lit fires in Belcourt Square, where more than 20.000 people had gathered to watch the final on a giant screen. For hours there was a stealth war in the surrounding alleys.
In Marseilles, two police officers were injured and 10 were brought. The episodes took place in the Old Port and the fan zone.
Smaller deviations were also recorded in Ajaccio, while in Rouen and Strasbourg for hours there was an exchange of ammunition between young people and police. The former threw all kinds of objects, the latter responded with tear gas.
