A 12-year-old boy shot and killed the man who had earlier broken into the home of his 73-year-old grandmother in North Carolina, USA, in an attempt to protect her.
Two masked robbers broke into Linda Ellis's home last Saturday and demanded money. The robbers shot the grandmother in the leg and her grandson shot the two robbers, who then left the house.
Khalil Herring, 19, was later located about a block from the apartment. He was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police found evidence that Herring was one of two masked men in the grandmother's apartment. "Early indications are that Khalil Herring is one of the two masked men in the apartment who came under fire during the robbery. "A 12-year-old boy in the house shot the suspects in self-defense, forcing them to leave the apartment," police said.
