Spain's candidate Angela Ponce is being touted as the first favorite to win the Miss Universe title.
What seems to have played an important role in this development is that the 27-year-old Spaniard is σ transsexual!
Ponce began hormone therapy at just 16 years old and underwent vaginal plastic surgery eight years later.
She stresses that if she takes the crown at the ceremony to be held on December 17, it will be a victory for human rights.
In an interview with Time magazine, Ponce was asked what a victory would mean for her as US President Donald Trump, who previously hosted the Miss Universe pageant, did not allow transgender participation until 2012. "More than "A message to him would be a victory for human rights," the 27-year-old from Seville had replied.
"Trans women have been persecuted for a long time. "If they give me the crown, it will show that trans women are the same as normal women."
