Police in Fresno, California, are investigating an armed attack on people who had gathered in the backyard of a house yesterday Sunday to watch an American football match together. According to initial reports, there are dead and injured in critical condition, said a police spokeswoman.
The gunman opened fire as he entered the yard of a house in the southern district of Fresno, where family members and friends had gathered to watch the fight after 18pm, the spokeswoman said. Neighbors made dozens of calls to the emergency number asking for help.
The suspect escaped. Police are combing the neighborhood, taking witness statements and trying to determine if there are cameras that have recorded the attack.
Police have not specified the number of dead and injured. Several of the 9 victims are believed to have exhaled.
Some of the injured were able to drive to Fresno Hospital, 322 kilometers north of Los Angeles. Other victims were taken to a nearby medical center.
